  • Sweet Peas Garden Shop (pictured), Homewood’s garden center since 2002, sells plants, pottery and living arrangements, including orchids, with local delivery, according to its site.
  • Savage’s Bakery, 2916 18th St. S., has baked in the Birmingham area since 1939 and is now in downtown Homewood. It is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and closed Sunday. 205-871-4901.

We Love Homewood Day, May 1

Homewood Parks and Recreation has set We Love Homewood Day for Saturday, May 1, 2027. The 2027 schedule is not out. The 2026 day, on May 2, ran from a 7:30 a.m. 5K and a fun run through a chalk art festival (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.), a festival with rides, inflatables and food at Central Park (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), a 6 p.m. parade and a street dance in Downtown Edgewood from 7 to 9:30 p.m., according to the event page. Homewood Parks says those 2026 details are kept for reference only.
