Homewood’s brunch is in two clusters: Edgewood, along Oxmoor Road, and SoHo and downtown, on 29th Avenue South and 18th Street South. Ruby Sunshine, Big Bad Breakfast and Frothy Monkey serve breakfast and brunch food every day; Frothy Monkey takes weekend brunch reservations.

Edgewood

Ruby Sunshine 1017 Oxmoor Road. 205-236-7790. Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant lists brunch, cocktails and outdoor seating, with reservations, a waitlist and online ordering on its site.

Frothy Monkey 930 Oxmoor Road. (659) 202-4344. Hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Brunch reservations: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. An all-day cafe and coffee roaster with a covered patio looking onto Edgewood, coffee, craft beer, wine and cocktails. Leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome in the outdoor seating only. Parking is on Oxmoor Road and in the public lots at St. Charles Street and Oxmoor, the cafe says.

SoHo and downtown

Big Bad Breakfast 1926 29th Ave. S. 205-666-7099. Hours: 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., seven days a week. A Southern scratch diner on two floors, with a menu by chef John Currence. The restaurant says it makes its biscuits, gravies, jams, hollandaise, Bloody Mary mix and hot sauce in-house and uses McEwen & Sons grits. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available.

O’Henry’s Coffees 2831 18th St. S. 205-870-1198. Hours: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday; 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. A Birmingham roaster since 1993, with eight locations around the metro.

Savage’s Bakery 2916 18th St. S. 205-871-4901. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday; closed Sunday. A bakery since 1939, now on 18th Street in downtown Homewood, with food and drink menus on its site.
