Summer in Homewood centers on two city pools, a city day camp for elementary-age children and the arts camps at Samford University. Homewood City Schools’ last day is Wednesday, May 26, 2027, with a noon dismissal. Homewood Parks had not posted 2027 camp dates or a pool opening day as of Oct. 17, 2026.

The city day camp

Homewood Parks’ Summer Day Camp is for Homewood residents only, for children entering grades 1 to 6. The 2026 camp ran in two sessions:

In 2026, registration forms were accepted at the Homewood Community Center from Tuesday, Feb. 17, with a check or money order payable to “Homewood Parks,” a separate check per child, and forms unfolded in a large flat envelope, according to the camps page. Expect 2027 registration in mid-February.

Pools and splash pads

Both city pools list the same hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Hours change with weather, staffing and programs, so check the live pool status first.

  • Who can swim: pool access is part of the Homewood Parks Total Access membership, which is for Homewood residents and also covers the community centers. Members may bring one guest per day per pool, registered in person, for a guest fee.
  • Children younger than 11 must be with a responsible adult. Swim diapers are required for children who are not potty trained.
  • The water slide at Patriot Park is for riders at least 48 inches tall who are strong swimmers.
  • Food: concessions at both pools are run by 2 Men and a Pig, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Swim lessons are booked through Trident Aquatics.

Samford University arts camps

Samford’s Academy of the Arts runs summer art camps for grades 1 to 8 and music camps for grades 1 to 12 on campus. In 2026 the art camps were Art Studio for Teens (grades 6 to 8, June 1-5) and three Bulldog Art Camp weeks for grades 1 to 5 (June 15-19, June 22-26 and July 20-24), each 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the beginner music camp, Explorations in Music, ran June 8-12 for ages 5 to 9.
