Halloween treat safety
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Halloween food safety tips for parents:
- Give children a light meal or snack before they go out, and ask them not to eat treats until you have checked them at home.
- Tell children not to accept, and especially not to eat, anything that is not commercially wrapped.
- Check wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an odd appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes or torn wrappers, and throw away anything that looks suspicious.
- If your child has a food allergy, check labels, and do not let the child eat home-baked goods they were given.
Out on the street, use sidewalks and crosswalks where you can, and call the police non-emergency line, 205-332-6200, about anything that worries you.
