Black Friday is Nov. 27 and Small Business Saturday is Nov. 28, 2026. Homewood’s shopping season starts three weeks earlier, with the Holiday Open House downtown on Thursday, Nov. 5, and Edgewood’s Sip & Shop and tree lighting on Tuesday, Nov. 10. As of Oct. 17, no Homewood store or shopping center had posted Black Friday hours.

Holiday Open House, Nov. 5

The Homewood Chamber of Commerce and Homewood Parks and Recreation open the season with an evening of shopping at downtown businesses from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. The event page lists refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, a trolley and shopping discounts throughout the evening. The chamber’s listing names Ray and Poynor as the presenting sponsor.

Edgewood Sip & Shop and tree lighting, Nov. 10

Edgewood’s shops on and around Oxmoor Road hold their Holiday Sip & Shop on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and the tree in Downtown Edgewood is lit at 6:30 p.m., according to the chamber listing. Frothy Monkey, one of the Edgewood businesses, points guests to parking on Oxmoor Road and in the public lots at St. Charles Street and Oxmoor.

Brookwood Village is closed. The former mall is being redeveloped. In December 2024 the City Council approved an agreement with Mountain Brook to work together on the developer’s plans; the agreement excludes the Target store and the office buildings.

Black Friday and Small Business Saturday

Black Friday hours are set by each store and center, and none in Homewood had posted 2026 hours when we checked. We will add them as they are published. Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28, is the day for the independent shops downtown, in SoHo and in Edgewood.

City Hall and non-emergency city offices are closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, under the city’s 2026 holiday schedule. Trash pickup that week runs a day late from Thursday; see our Thanksgiving page.

Holiday markets nearby

The Junior League of Birmingham’s Market Noel is at the Finley Center in Hoover the week before Thanksgiving: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Tickets are sold on the league’s site.

Parking and traffic
