Hollywood was its own town, the city of Hollywood, Alabama, until Homewood annexed it in 1929, the city’s history page says. It is the east side of Homewood today: curving streets of houses along Hollywood Boulevard and Bonita Drive, from U.S. 31 east to U.S. 280, where Hollywood Boulevard crosses into Mountain Brook.

Where it is

The Historic Preservation Commission’s driving tour makes Hollywood Ward 5 and starts it “along Hollywood Boulevard and Bonita Drive.” Its stops include the Spanish Revival and English Tudor homes of the Hollywood Historic District, in the National Park Service’s National Register records, and the site of the Hollywood Country Club. The draft growth and conservation map in the city’s July 22, 2026, comprehensive plan workshop (PDF) puts Hollywood among the “Areas to Protect.”

On this page the area is the city’s Ward 5 in its five-ward map layer, without the Brookwood Village district at its south end. The streets with the most address points are Poinciana Drive, Windsor Drive, Devon Drive, Sandner Court, Lancaster Road, Yorkshire Drive, Independence Drive, Bonita Drive and Hollywood Boulevard. Every address is in ZIP code 35209 and inside city limits.

The index is a modeled typical value for the middle third of homes, not a sale price. Parks and trails

The city’s green spaces layer shows no city park inside Hollywood. The nearest are:

  • Central Park, 1632 Oxmoor Road: the Central Pool, a large playground and walking paths.
  • Shades Creek Greenway, to the south.

Getting around

  • U.S. 280: Hollywood Boulevard crosses the highway on a two-lane bridge built in 1960 that carries nearly 20,000 cars a day, the city says. New sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard from Malaga Avenue up to the bridge have been under construction since Aug. 3, with lane closures, much of the work at night. A second phase will widen the bridge, add a traffic light at the exit ramp and a protected walkway; it is expected to go out for bid in 2027.
  • Buses: MAX Route 280 runs along U.S. 280, and Route 31 along U.S. 31 on the west side.
  • City Hall: about 1.1 miles from the middle of the area by road.
  • Airport: about 8.2 miles to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Both are road distances measured on the OpenStreetMap network with the OSRM routing engine, not drive times.
  • MAX On-Demand: rides anywhere in the city limits for $1.50 a trip, in the MAX Connect app.

How we drew this area

Hollywood is named by the city’s history page, the Historic Preservation Commission’s tour, the draft comprehensive plan map and OpenStreetMap. Its edges here follow Ward 5 of the city’s five-ward map layer, the tour’s Hollywood ward, without the Brookwood Village streets south of about Shades Creek Parkway. School shares are from every city address point inside those edges, checked Oct. 17, 2026. Store locations are © OpenStreetMap contributors.
