Where it is
The Historic Preservation Commission’s driving tour groups “Lakeshore, Mayfair and Windsor” as Ward 4 of Homewood’s five historic wards. The draft growth and conservation map in the city’s July 22, 2026, comprehensive plan workshop (PDF) names both Windsor Highlands and Mayfair among the established residential areas in its “Areas to Protect,” where changes would be “sensitive to the scale, rhythm, and design of surrounding homes.” OpenStreetMap marks both as named places. The plan is still a draft.
On this page the area is the north part of the city’s Ward 4 in its five-ward map layer, north of about Saulter Road and Lakeshore Drive. The streets with the most address points are Glenwood Drive, Ridge Road, Wellington Road, Saulter Road, Roseland Drive, Edgewood Boulevard, Kenilworth Drive, Kensington Road and Windsor Boulevard. In the city’s address map, 96% of the 1,145 address points use ZIP code 35209; a group of addresses on Lakeshore Drive uses 35210. All are inside city limits.
Schools
This is how the 1,145 address points split in the city’s school zone layer on Oct. 17. Grades are from the state’s 2024-25 report card.
| Level | School | Share of address points | 2024-25 grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| High | Homewood High | 100% | A (94) |
| Middle | Homewood Middle, 395 Mecca Ave. | 100% | A (97) |
| Elementary | Edgewood Elementary, 901 College Ave. | 53% | A (100) |
| Elementary | Shades Cahaba Elementary, 3001 Independence Drive | 47% | A (99) |
The zone line runs through the area, so two houses a few blocks apart can go to different elementary schools. Check one address with the district’s school locator map, which the district says is not legally binding, and confirm with residency and enrollment at 205-870-2011. More in our schools guide.

The typical home value in ZIP 35209 was $536,460 in September 2026, up 6.70% from $502,785 in September 2025, according to the Zillow Home Value Index. The index is a modeled typical value for the middle third of homes, not a sale price. It covers the whole ZIP code, which takes in most of Homewood, so it does not separate Mayfair from the rest of the city. Zillow publishes no figure for 35210 in this data.
