Where it is

The Historic Preservation Commission’s driving tour makes Rosedale Ward 1 and starts it “at 18th Street South and 26th Avenue South, near the view toward Vulcan and Red Mountain.” Its stops include the Rosedale Historic District and the story of the Damon Lee family. The Lee Community Center is on 25th Court South.

The draft growth and conservation map in the city’s July 22, 2026, comprehensive plan workshop (PDF) puts residential Rosedale among the “Areas to Protect” and “underutilized areas of Rosedale” among the “Areas to Enhance,” where it would allow “additional housing options, and small neighborhood commercial.” The plan is still a draft.

In spring 2026, Samford University architecture students studied the stretch of 18th Street where downtown meets Rosedale. Mayor Jennifer Andress said they highlighted a drop in walkability north of 28th Avenue. The city said the student projects are not official plans.

On this page the area is the north part of the city’s Ward 1 in its five-ward map layer, north of about 28th Avenue and east of the Grove Park streets. The streets with the most address points are 25th Court, 26th Avenue, 18th Street, 25th Terrace, Beckham Drive, 27th Avenue and 19th Street.
