Homewood’s four barbecue restaurants sit in two pairs. Demetri’s and Rodney Scott’s are a few blocks apart near SoHo, on 28th Avenue South and 18th Street South. Saw’s is in Edgewood at 1008 Oxmoor Road, and Jim ‘N Nick’s is on the same road at No. 220.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Homewood’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 17, 2026. We added Demetri’s BBQ, which was missing from the map data but whose own site gives its Homewood address, and Rodney Scott’s BBQ, whose site lists a Homewood location. We left out Full Moon Bar-B-Que on Valley Avenue, which its site calls Homewood but which is inside Birmingham’s city limits; Costa’s on Lakeshore Parkway, which has no website and no 2026 county inspection we could find; and Fat Charles BBQ, which has a 2026 Jefferson County Department of Health inspection at a Vulcan Road address it shares with food trucks but no website we could confirm. Demetri’s BBQ on 28th Avenue South has a dining room and a drive-thru, and it opens at 6 a.m., hours before the other three. Its site says the drive-thru stays open half an hour after the dining room closes, that it may close at 3 p.m. on some Saturdays for evening events, and that groups can book the restaurant for parties after 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and after 3 p.m. Sunday.

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q on Oxmoor Road is one of the barbecue chain’s many Alabama restaurants. The chain’s site offers curbside and to-go orders, delivery and catering, and the Homewood page lists a separate catering line, 205-637-2977.

Rodney Scott’s BBQ near SoHo builds its plates around whole hog pork, with spare ribs, pulled pork shoulder, beef brisket, turkey breast, chicken and catfish. Its appetizers include smoked chicken wings, brisket chili and burnt ends on a stick, and it takes online orders.

Saw’s BBQ in Edgewood is the restaurant where Saw’s began, according to its site, which says founder and chef Mike Wilson learned barbecue growing up in North Carolina and first opened in a residential area of Homewood. Saw’s now runs several restaurants around Birmingham and a food truck, and its site lists Southern soul food alongside the barbecue.
