How the 2026 day ran

The 2026 event was Saturday, May 2, in Homewood’s centennial year. The parade theme was “Centennial Homewood.” This was the schedule in the event catalog:

Time What Where
7:30 a.m. WLHD 5K, then the fun run; supports Homewood High School fine arts programs Marked on the event map
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homewood Rotary Club’s sidewalk chalk art contest Central Park
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festival: rides, inflatables, food, a vendor expo and a DJ Central Park
1 p.m. Homewood High School Band pep rally Central Park stage
6 p.m. Parade Homewood Public Library to Downtown Edgewood
7 to 9:30 p.m. Street dance with the Peytones Downtown Edgewood

Both 2026 and 2027 dates fall on the first Saturday in May. If the 2027 schedule follows the same pattern, the festival will again run through the middle of the day with the parade at dusk; we will post the times here when Homewood Parks does.

The festival at Central Park

The daytime festival fills Homewood Central Park, 1632 Oxmoor Road. In 2026 it ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with rides, inflatables, food, a vendor expo and a DJ, Homewood Parks says. The event map put the wristband attractions, food vendors, vendor booths, a volunteer pavilion and restrooms around the park, with the stage for the band’s pep rally.

Wristbands: $15 in 2026 for unlimited rides at the Central Park attractions. Proceeds went to the Homewood High School Band.

The parade

The parade starts at the Homewood Public Library, 1721 Oxmoor Road. In 2026 it stepped off at 6 p.m., traveled west on Oxmoor Road and ended after a right turn onto Evergreen Avenue in Edgewood, according to the parade entry form.

  • Entering: participation was free in 2026. Businesses, nonprofits, bands, floats, vehicles and marching groups filled out the form; the 2026 deadline was Monday, April 27.
  • Lineup: entries had to be at the library by 5:30 p.m. Only parade vehicles were allowed in the library parking lot.
  • Awards: in 2026, a business award, a civic award for a nonprofit or civic group and a “Most Homewood Spirit” award.

The street dance

After the parade, the party moves to Downtown Edgewood. In 2026 the street dance ran from 7 to 9:30 p.m. with music from the Peytones, attractions from Fun Source Rentals and food from Downtown Edgewood businesses.

Road closures and parking

Homewood Parks has not published a road closure map for the day. The parade uses Oxmoor Road west of the library and finishes on Evergreen Avenue, so expect that stretch to be blocked around the parade and the Edgewood streets to be busy through the street dance. The 2026 event map showed parking at the Homewood Community Center lot at Central Park. The library lot is reserved for parade vehicles in the evening. Questions on the day go to Homewood Parks at 205-332-6700.
